National Voters Day was celebrated on 25 January 2011 for the first time in history. The mind behind this valuable step was the then Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni

Ambika Soni ji noticed that the civilians who just crossed the age of 18 are not showing interest in the electoral processes and according to them, voting is not so important. So to introduce those 18-plus youngsters to the importance of voting Ambika Soni decided to do something that can bring awareness in the whole country regarding the importance of voting.

To accomplish this vision the Election Commission decided to establish a nationwide step and addressed National Voters Day on 25 January for the first time in the year 2011. That proposal to celebrate such a National Day on 25 January was approved by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

From the year 2011 to the present National Voters Day in India is celebrated on 25 January and India will celebrate the 13th Nationa Voters Day in 2023.

What Happen On National Voters Day

Along with spreading awareness, every year government allots the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to the new voters, which means to the young who are now 18 as of 1 January and eligible to give a vote.
