In 2010, International Tiger Day was celebrated for the first time when it was discovered that only 3000 Tigers are left globally, and nearly, 97% of the population of Tigers is extinct in the last century, the reason behind this is by changes in climate, hunting, poaching, and habitat loss. This issue was raised during the Tiger Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia.

All 13 nations present at this conference made a commitment to double the population of tigers in their country by 2023.

Many international organizations including WWF, IFAW, and Smithsonian Institute have also recognized this issue seriously and are active participants in the revival of the tiger population in the world.
