Shivani Mehta and Harnehmat Kaur are the founders of Daak Room, a cultural enterprise promoting the art of handwritten letters. Shivani completed her schooling at St. Mary’s Convent Inter College, Allahabad, and enrolled at the National Institute of Design to pursue her Bachelor of Design. Harnehmat Kaur was also with her at NID, Ahmedabad and they were roommates as well.

Shivani did internships at Experiential Design Lab and Hibrise Technologies Pvt Ltd. She joined the Center for Knowledge Societies in 2014 as a Design Researcher and left the company in 2015 to co-found BioQ Eco Solutions.

Harnehmat founded Battess in 2013 and also worked at Design Factory India as an Exhibition and Spatial Designer and Team Manager from 2015 to 2017.

The common love for handwritten letters of 2 friends popped the idea of DAAK Rooms which they started in October 2015. Since then, 8,00,000+ letters have been written. They conduct different events for engagement and awareness.

Daak Room on Shark Tank India episode released on 7 February 2024. The founders presented their business model and love for writing to the Sharks. The Sharks were also too happy and emotional due to the letters received from their loved ones. The founders asked for Rs 36 lakh in exchange for 4% equity. The first offer was given by Vineeta Singh which was Rs 36 lakh for 4% along with 3% royalty until 2x is recouped.

Ritesh also offered them Rs 36 lakh for 6% equity. The founders requested Ritesh to deal at 5% equity as they were not able to take a royalty deal with Vineeta. Ritesh sealed the deal with Daak Room for Rs 36 lakh for 6% and promised to return 1% equity if the founders could meet the projected profit of this Financial Year.
