At the age of 16, Udit realized that the glass dumped in landfills is polluting our environment so badly when he researched about it then come to know that plastic takes 100 years to be degraded while glass takes 1000 years to be degraded. On the other hand, sand is mined on the second number after water in the world. So Udit took the initiative to repurpose glass and turn it into valuable Silica-rich sand.
Hence, Glass will be recycled, so it will not pollute the environment and the requirement of sand can be fulfilled by the manufactured sand so the mining will also be reduced by a certain number.
Udit’s research took him to New Zealand and he discovered the machine that grinds glass into sand. And to start the Udit Singhal Glass2Sand company in India, Udit also received $2,000 in funding from the New Zealand High Commission.
If we consider the current scenario, then Udit Singhal Glass2Sand company has been recycled 65,000+ glass bottles into 39,000 kg of high-quality silica sand. The bottles are collected from and around Delhi with a 550 volunteer network.
